Allison Asselbergs is a photographer and teacher based in New York.
Allison’s teaching philosophy is rooted in community, diversity, exploration, generosity, and patience. She currently teaches at the lower elementary level in an independent school in the Hudson Valley. Allison is also developing her own community art organization, Here & Now: Arts and Culture, and aims to have a brick-and-mortar location complete with a darkroom, textile studio, and ceramics studio in the near future.
Allison’s photographic work has its foundations in traditional black-and-white photography. She works primarily with analog processes, using cameras spanning from the 1930s to today. Her portraiture work explores the roles of artist and muse, combatting the misogynistic expectations rooted in art history. She is also available for contract work, ranging from weddings to family portraits.
